Kernpunkte

We will see a downward trend in avalanche danger into Monday as recent Wind Slabs begin to stabilize.  That being said, it will still be possible to trigger Wind Slabs on isolated slopes.  Lower elevations will see rain tomorrow afternoon, and this could create some intability in the steepest, lowest elevation terrain.

    Continued Moderate West winds and a trickle of new snow Sunday and Monday afternoon, means that Wind Slabs will be our primary problem.  These aren't likely to be the Wind Slabs of the last week.  I expect them to be smaller, more stubborn and more isolated, but they'll still be out there.  Some of the OR Cascades saw wetter precipitation (freezing rain) on Sunday, and this will also decrease the likelihood of Wind Slabs as it will limit the snow that is available for transport.

Avalanche Discussion

Relatively small amounts of new snow Sunday and into Monday mean that the stormy days of last week and the associated avalanche characters are slowly receeding into the past.  Warmer temperatures are aiding in the settling and rounding of all the recent storm snow.  I'm still doing a lot of pole probing and hand shears whenever I've had a day out of the snow, or am skiing somewhere new.  During the course of the last few weeks we haven't been finding any peristent weak layers.
