Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: The snowpack will remain well bonded and stable throughout. Shaded aspects will be generally firm, whereas slopes exposed to any direct sunlight will develop a softer surface layer. Snow patches and ribbons will remain in depressions and hollows below 950 metres. Remaining cornices could potentially collapse, especially were affected by the sun. The avalanche hazard will be Low.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Dry throughout the forecast period with some sunny spells expected during the day. Fresh Southerly winds will increase to strong during the day and veer to become South-Westerly. The freezing level will remain above the summits. Observed Weather Influences: A sunny day with light Southerly winds. After cooler temperatures during the night the freezing level rose to above the summits by dawn. ObservedSnowStability: The snowpack is firm well bonded and stable throughout. Shaded aspects are particularly firm, slopes exposed to direct sunlight have a softer surface layer. Significant glide cracks were noted on a North aspect at 1100 metres. Rockfall was observed on the same aspect. Snow patches and ribbons of well bonded snow remain in depressions and hollows below 950 metres. The avalanche hazard is Low.
