Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: Much of the snowpack will remain firm and icy in places with good general stability. New snow and Easterly winds will add depth to localised areas of windslab in sheltered gullies and on slopes mainly above 850 metres with a South-West through North-West to Northerly aspect. Gully exits and steep corrie rims will be most affected. Some small fragile cornices may also exist in these locations. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Light falls of new snow are possible overnight and through Saturday. Winds will remain Easterly strong to gale force overnight but reducing through the day. The freezing level will fluctuate around the summits rising to 1400 metres later in the day. Observed Weather Influences: New snow overnight affected slopes mainly above 400 metres. Easterly winds were generally fresh to strong. Summit temperatures today are around -4 degrees C. ObservedSnowStability: Much of the snowpack is re-frozen and firm with good general stability. Areas of moderately bonded windslab exist in sheltered gullies and on slopes with a South-West to North-Westerly aspect, these areas tend to be localised mainly to gully exits and steep corrie rims.
