Avalanche Activity

New snow and wind slabs above approximately 2200 m.

The wind slabs will form in particular adjacent to ridgelines and at high altitudes. They can in some places be released, even by a single winter sport participant. In all aspects as well as in all altitude zones less snow than usual is lying. In the typical avalanche paths in these regions the avalanches can in very isolated cases reach large size. At intermediate altitudes a little snow is lying. This shortens the runout distances.

Snowpack Structure

The new snow of the weekend is lying on the unfavourable surface of an old snowpack in particular on steep shady slopes above approximately 2200 m. Up to 60 cm of snow, and up to 70 cm in some localities, fell in the last two days above approximately 2000 m. Also in all regions above approximately 2500 m snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind.
