Snowpack
Some of the snowdrift accumulations from the last few days are still prone to triggering. In the west and north, avalanches can also be triggered at the transition from drifted snow to old snow lying near the surface.
In southern Valais, Grisons and Ticino, there are weak layers in the lower part of the snowpack, and in these regions avalanches may be triggered in drifted snow and sweep away deeper layers of the snowpack. Occasionally, avalanches may also be triggered directly in deep layers, especially in the Engadine and south of there.
Gliding avalanches, some large, are still possible.

In the mountains conditions will be mostly sunny with high broken cloud. On the southern flank of the Alps, it will be overcast below 2000 m and a few centimetres of snow may fall down into the valleys in the morning. Towards the evening, cloud cover will increase from the west.

Outlook
Thursday morning will see cloudy conditions in the north and west with the possibility of a little precipitation, which will fall as snow above approximately 1800 m. It will turn increasingly sunny over the course of the day. In the south, conditions will be mostly sunny. Friday will be sunny in the mountains. Winds will be light to moderate on both days, westerly to northerly on Thursday, turning to southerly to south-westerly on Friday. The zero-degree level will be at 2200 m on Thursday, rising to 2800 m in the north on Friday.
Avalanche danger will decrease, only slowly in southern Valais, Ticino and Grisons due to the weak snowpack structure. There will continue to be a possibility of gliding avalanches.
