I lavlandet har store deler av snødekket smeltet bort. Kun noen få plasser man kan gå på ski fra havet i Lofoten. Snødekket er fuktet helt til topps etter mandagens regnvær. I noen N-V vendte heng finnes det tørr snø i høyden. Det lite som finnes av nysnø i høyden ligger på skare. Avhengig av nattefrost oppleves snøoverflaten hard eller myk tidlig på dagen. Følgelig kreves det å time skituren riktig.

Vær oppmerksom på at snøoverflaten endres betydelig i løpet av dagen utifra om det er nattefrost og solpåvirkning eller ikke. Skredproblemet er til stedet der snøoverflaten fuktes og myknes opp. Mindre våte skred kan løsne av seg selv og kan drar deg med over klipper og kanter. Hold avstand til skavler og unngå terreng under glidesprekker.
