The fresh wind slabs represent the main danger.
The fresh wind slabs represent the main danger.
40 to 50 cm of snow fell on Saturday above approximately 2000 m. The sometimes strong wind has transported the new snow. The fresh snow and the resulting wind slabs can be released easily or naturally in particular on steep north, northeast and east facing slopes above approximately 2200 m. In particular on steep slopes and adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls medium-sized and, in isolated cases, large dry slab avalanches are possible. Apart from the danger of being buried, restraint should be exercised as well in view of the danger of avalanches sweeping people along and giving rise to falls.
Over a wide area new snow is lying on a moist old snowpack. The cold fresh snow of the weekend and the sometimes deep wind slabs are poorly bonded with the old snowpack. The meteorological conditions will prevent a rapid strengthening of the near-surface layers.
On Tuesday it will be sunny. The avalanche danger will not decrease for the time being.
