Avalanche Activity

NC for 9.1: Instabilities on steep W, N, NE to E aspects above 800m, especially steep convex terrain, Isolated below 800m. Mod Haz.

Forecast Snow Stability: Overnight unstable windslab will continue to develop on North-East to Easterly aspects above 950m. Some consolidation within old windslab accumulations; however weaknesses will persist at depth. Areas most affected will be on steep and convex terrain such as around coire rims, gullies and crag aprons on North-Westerly through North to Easterly aspects above 800m. Improved stability below 800m with potential for isolated instabilities on steep terrain. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Dry conditions throughout the forecast period. Strong South-Westerly winds will gradually ease to light through the morning. The 600 metre freezing level will steadily rise to around 800 metres during the day. Observed Weather Influences: Occasional snow showers throughout the day on moderate South-Westerly winds. During the morning the freezing level rose to around 800 metres. ObservedSnowStability: Drifting snow at higher levels. New poorly bonded windslab has developed on Northerly to Easterly aspects above 1000 metres. Elsewhere snowpack instabilities remain at depth on North-Westerly through North to Easterly aspects mainly above 800 metres. Greatest instability is within steep and convex terrain with coire rims, gullies and crag aprons most affected. Some instabilities on steep banks below 800 metres but in general stability here is improving. The avalanche hazard is Considerable.
