Avalanche Activity

Significant decrease in danger of moist and wet avalanches as the temperature drops.

In all altitude zones hardly any more moist and wet avalanches are to be expected as the temperature drops. Dry avalanches can be released, mostly by large loads. Especially steep shady slopes high altitudes and the high Alpine regions: There is a danger of falling on the hard snow surface.

Snowpack Structure

The weather conditions fostered a gradual strengthening of the snowpack. Towards its surface, the snowpack is largely stable and its surface has a melt-freeze crust that is strong in many cases. Especially steep shady slopes high altitudes and the high Alpine regions: Weak layers exist in the snowpack. In the vicinity of peaks snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. In places that are protected from the wind in all altitude zones a lot of snow is lying for the time of year.
