The General Avalanche Hazard is MODERATE at the Mid and Upper elevations and LOW at the Lower elevations. Two avalanche scenarios remain possible today. First, backcountry travelers continue to find pockets of surface slabs 6 to 12 inches in depth on steep, wind loaded slopes near higher ridgecrests. Second, buried weak layers of faceted snow continue to lurk in steep, rocky areas with a shallow snowpack. Substantial triggers, such as snowmobiles, large groups, or surface slides are more likely to initiate these larger hard slides. The consequences of being caught in one of these deep slides could be severe. Avalanches are unlikely in the shallow snowpack at the lower elevations.

A weak ridge of high pressure will keep skies clear through Tuesday night. 10,000 foot high temperatures could reach the freezing point. Ridgetop winds will back from northerly to westerly and increase to 35 mile per hour averages by evening.The General Avalanche Hazard is expected to remain MODERATE in the Tetons where isolated pocets of surface slabs to 12 inches are possible. In the Continental Divide/Togwotee Pass and the Southwest Trails/Greys River areas the Hazard will be MODERATE but the primary concern is for deeper, hard slab avalanches.
