Kernpunkte

Avalanche conditions remain dangerous. Due to poor snow structure at the mid and upper elevations the weight of a single person can trigger large to very large slab avalanches on a variety of aspects. In these conditions expert terrain analysis skills and conservative terrain choices are essential for safe travel in the mountains. Avalanches are unlikely below an elevation of 7,500 feet where the general avalanche hazard is LOW.

At the mid and upper elevations the potential for humans to trigger slab avalanches with depths to four feet poses a serious threat to backcountry users. These dangerous slabs will fail on a deeply buried layer of faceted snow that persist on all aspects. Previous tracks are not an indication of stability.

Avalanche Discussion

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )Cold air will continue to be the dominate weather feature. Some clouds and limited moisture will move into the region and bring a chance for some light snowfall or flurries. Accumulations of a couple inches are possible by Wednesday morning. Temperatures will mostly be in the single digits above and below zero. Winds will be light.Avalanche conditions remain dangerous. Poor snow structure presents the potential for humans to trigger large slab avalanches on a variety of aspects at the mid and upper elevations where the general avalanche hazard is expected to remain CONSIDERABLE. Previous tracks may not be an indication of stability.
