Strong winds and recent snow increase your chances of triggering an avalanche, especially above treeline. You could trigger an avalanche in drifts of new snow on north, northeast, and east-facing slopes. Be on the lookout for cracking and avoid fresh, pillowy, lens-shaped drifts below ridgelines and in cross-loaded terrain features. Safer travel can be found in wind-sheltered terrain.
