Kernpunkte
At the upper elevations, backcountry travelers could trigger pockets of surface slab up to 18 inches in depth in steep, wind loaded terrain. At the mid elevations, where there has been less wind effect, avalanches are unlikely except for isolated pockets of soft slab up to a foot deep on very steep slopes. The snowpack is mostly stable at the lower elevations and avalanches are unlikely.
Avalanche Discussion
Moisture embedded in the northwest flow will bring clouds and periods of light snowfall. Snowfall accumulations of a couple inches are likely at the higher elevations by Thursday morning. Temperatures will moderate at elevation but will remain cold in the valleys. Wednesday’s highs will rise into the teens in the mountains and only into the single digits above zero in the valleys. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be MODERATE. Pockets of slab up to 18 inches in depth persist and could be triggered by skiers or riders who venture into steep avalanche terrain.
