Kernpunkte

At upper elevations backcountry travelers could trigger slabs to two feet in depth on steep slopes, particularly above or below cliff bands or cornices. Larger triggers such as snow machines or more than one person on a slope may be necessary to initiate slides. In isolated, very steep areas with deep drifted snow, slabs to six feet in depth could be human triggered. At mid elevations pockets of surface slab to 18 inches in depth could be triggered in steep, wind loaded starting zones. Avalanches are unlikely at low elevations except in isolated pockets.

Avalanche Discussion

Some light snow with little accumulation expected is possible through the night and through Thursday. Skies during the day are to be mostly cloudy, temperatures are to rise to the upper twenties to low thirties, and winds are to be light. Above 9000 feet, the avalanche hazard will be Moderate throughout the region. Near cliff bands or under cornices, slabs to two feet in depth lie and deeper slabs also lurk in very steep areas with good wind deposition. Larger triggers such as cornices or snowmachines are likely to be required to initiate slides. The last reported avalanche activity occurred on Sunday. Periods of sunshine and warmer temperatures will increase the sensitivity of slabs and could produce sloughs off steep slopes or rocky areas.
