At the mid and high elevations, the possibility exists for backcountry riders and skiers to trigger hard surface slabs to two feet in depth on very steep wind loaded avalanche terrain. In isolated areas some potential also persists for human triggered deep hard slabs. Avalanches are unlikely at the lower elevations except for in isolated pockets of wind drifted snow.
Avalanche Discussion
Pacific moisture riding over a ridge of high pressure will keep cloud cover over the region along with a chance of light flurries. Mountain and valley temperatures will rise into the mid 20s and ridgetop winds will be westerly at 10 to 20 miles per hour. The general avalanche hazard is expected to remain MODERATE on Monday. Backcountry travelers could trigger pockets of surface slabs up to three feet in very steep, wind-loaded avalanche terrain. In a few areas, the potential also remains for larger loads, such as snowmachines, to trigger deep hard slabs up to six feet in depth.
