The mostly small wind slabs can be released, especially by large additional loads, especially on north, northeast and east facing slopes above approximately 2400 m. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular in steep terrain at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions and at transitions into gullies and bowls.

In some cases the wind slabs have bonded poorly with the old snowpack. Adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas as well as in high Alpine regions snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. Sunshine and high temperatures will give rise in the afternoon to increasing moistening of the snowpack in particular on sunny slopes.
