Avalanche Activity

The surface of the snowpack will only just freeze. From late morning the natural activity of moist avalanches will increase.

As a consequence of warming medium-sized moist and wet avalanches are possible. The fresh snow as well as the mostly small wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant at intermediate and high altitudes. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in steep terrain at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions and at transitions into gullies and bowls.

Snowpack Structure

5 to 10 cm of snow fell in the last few days. The new snow is lying on a crust on shady slopes above approximately 2300 m. Adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas as well as in high Alpine regions snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind.
