An improved snow surface refreeze is expected for today with mostly clear skies overnight along with low temperatures in the mid 20's to mid 30's. Strong winds could have also helped to cool the snow surface on wind exposed slopes, these winds should decrease today. Melt freeze crusts that exist on E-SE-S-SW-W aspects are forming and should be stronger this morning. As these crusts melt away as daytime warming occurs, wet snow and colder transitional snow below will be exposed.
Wet snow will form on the snow surface as daytime warming occurs. Roller balls and pinwheels will be potential indicators that unstable wet snow is forming. Any wet loose avalanches are expected to be small in size today and pose limited issues for backcountry users. Use caution if traveling in steeper terrain where small unstable wet snow could take you into terrain traps such as rocks, trees, or over cliffs.
