Early Season Conditions Update #9

Normal caution is advised throughout the forecast area when traveling in the backcountry.  A useable snowpack of 2-3' exists above 8000' with generally safe avalanche conditions. Small wind slabs may exist or develop in wind loaded areas in near treeline and above treeline terrain through the week.   Practice safe travel protocols when in or near avalanche terrain.

    Generally safe avalanche conditions exist with a useable snowpack above 8000' in most areas.  Small wind slabs may exist or form on all aspects in near treeline and above treeline terrain through the week as wind speeds fluctuate and change directions.  Many hazards and obstacles exist throughout the region including: exposed trees, rocks, bushes, open water, creek crossings, etc.  Firm rain crusts have been observed in wind scoured terrain and could pose travel hazards.   

Avalanche Discussion

- Rain reported up to 10'000 on Sunday with 4-10'' of storm snow reported throughout the forecast area on Sunday night/Monday.

-  Consolidated snowpack of 2-3' above 8000' made up of mostly wet grains and rain crusts with settled storm snow on surface.
