New weaker windslab NE to S aspects above 950m.
New weaker windslab NE to S aspects above 950m.
Forecast Snow Stability: New, weaker windslab will accumulate on steep and very sheltered North-East through East to South-East aspects above 950m. Pockets of new wind drifted snow expected on some steep South aspects later. Minor new cornice development possible over selected steeper lee slopes. Good stability on all scoured old snow patches which will be frozen hard or crusty. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.
Forecast Weather Influences: Wintry conditions overnight and during the day. Frequent snow showers on strong West later North West winds. Colder temperatures overnight easing a little during the day. Observed Weather Influences: Blustery snow showers preceded by sleet. Strong, turbulent generally Westerly airflow. Progressively cooler over the course of the day. ObservedSnowStability: A refreeze above 850m has brought good stability where the sparse old snowpack is exposed. Pockets of new weaker windslab have accumulated but only in very sheltered areas on some North-East through East to South East aspects above 1000m. Strong, turbulent winds induced lee slope scouring in places at highest elevations. Little drifted snow at lower elevations at the time of reporting where bare rock or vegetation predominates. The avalanche hazard is Low.
