Northwest through north to east-facing slopes near and above treeline are the most dangerous, especially in wind-loaded terrain. You might have to find a thin spot in the slab near rocks, a steep rollover, or around the margins of the slope, but the ensuing avalanche could take out the entire snowpack. Safer travel options exist on south-facing slopes, where strout crusts are more prevalent, but may become unstable late in the day if they get too warm.
