Steep slopes with recently drifted snow are the most dangerous. Be careful, especially on north through east-facing slopes, where you find cohesive, harder slabs of snow. You can trigger avalanches that break 1 to 2 feet deep beneath the most recent storm snow. In places where the snow isn't affected by the wind, you'll find cohesionless storm snow. On very steep, sheltered slopes, you can trigger long-running sluffs that can knock you off of your feet.
