    • 2,300 m–2,800 m

Avalanche Activity

The wind slabs represent the main danger.

As a consequence of the strong northwesterly wind the avalanche prone locations will become more prevalent as the day progresses. The fresh wind slabs must be evaluated with care and prudence in particular on north to east to south facing aspects above approximately 2400 m. Single winter sport participants can release avalanches. Backcountry touring calls for meticulous route selection. Avalanches can in very isolated cases be released in the weakly bonded old snow on steep shady slopes.

Snowpack Structure

Here less snow fell than expected. 20 cm of snow has fallen since Friday above approximately 2500 m. On Friday it was mild. The rain gave rise to thorough wetting of the old snowpack over a wide area below approximately 2500 m. Over a wide area new snow and wind slabs are lying on a hard crust, especially below approximately 2600 m. The old snowpack is unfavourably layered.

Tendency

The danger of dry avalanches will persist.
