Evaluate snow and terrain carefully; identify areas of concern. Avalanches are unlikely below an elevation of 8,000 feet.

    Dense wind slabs formed by west to southwest winds could be triggered by the weight of a single person. These slabs are expected to be 6 to 18 inches deep and could be up to two feet deep in some upper elevation slide paths.

Avalanche Discussion

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )It will continue to be cold and cloudy with periods of light snowfall. This snowfall is likely to favor the higher elevations and the west slope of the Teton Range where several inches of new snow accumulation are possible overnight and during the day. Temperatures will stay in the single digits and teens. Winds will be strong and gusty from the west-southwest to west at speeds of 20 to 30 with gusts to 45 miles per hour. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be MODERATE at the higher elevations of the Togwotee Pass and Greys River areas and at the mid elevations of the Teton area. Here dense wind slabs up to 18 inches in depth could be human triggered in steep wind loaded avalanche paths and cliff areas. These slabs are more widely distributed, larger and deeper at the upper elevations of the Teton Range where the general avalanche hazard is expected to be CONSIDERABLE. In all forecast areas the general avalanche hazard is forecast to be LOW at the lower elevations.
