Avalanche Activity

NC for 1.1. Fresh windslab SW,W,NW will build, while unstable windslab will persist on N,NE,E above 900m. Stable elsewhere. Mod Haz.

Forecast Snow Stability: As the day progresses, fresh unstable windslab will be deposited on South-West to North-West aspects above 900 metres. Steep wind sheltered locations will be affected notably where deposits achieve depth. Moderately bonded windslab will persist on North to East aspects above 900 metres, with coire rims, gully tops and ridge flanks mostly affected. Outwith these aspects the snowpack will be stable, featuring a widespread crust. Cornices will remain fragile. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Another cold day is expected with a freezing level of 400 metres overnight, rising to 600 metres by the end of the day. After a dry night snow is expected to fall above 350 metres throughout daylight hours. Winds will be from the East-North-East overnight, veering to become Easterly by morning. Initially fresh, becoming moderate later. Observed Weather Influences: A dry and fine day with moderate winds mostly from the West-South-West veering towards the North later. The freezing level rose to around 400 metres during the day. ObservedSnowStability: Fresh moderately bonded windslab has been deposited overnight on North to East aspects above 900 metres. Areas most affected are steep wind sheltered locations such as coire rims, gully tops and ridge flanks. Outwith these aspects, the snowpack is stable due to the presence of a widespread breakable crust. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
