Forecast Snow Stability: Overnight, further weakly bonded windslab will continue to develop adding additional loading to the existing unstable snowpack particularly on North-East to South-East aspects above 800m, here avalanches will occur. On North and South aspects avalanches are also likely. Unstable windslab will also continue to develop in other wind sheltered locations on Westerly aspects and at lower elevations. Fragile cornices will continue to develop on many aspects. The avalanche hazard will be High.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Strong Westerly winds backing Southerly from early morning and easing to moderate strength. Snow showers overnight clearing by morning. Freezing level around 400m rising to 500m in the afternoon. Observed Weather Influences: Strong to Gale Force Westerly winds. Continuous heavy snowfall during the morning. Freezing level was around 400m. ObservedSnowStability: Deep areas of weakly bonded windslab continues to build adding to existing snowpack weaknesses mainly on North-East to South-East aspects above 800m. Unstable windslab is also present on North and South aspects and on other wind sheltered locations such as gullies, burn lines and steep banks on Westerly aspects at lower elevations. Fragile cornices are present on many aspects. The avalanche hazard is High.
