Avalanche Activity

A lot of new snow above approximately 2000 m: The current avalanche situation calls for caution and restraint.

In some localities 50 cm of snow, and up to 70 cm in some localities, will fall until the evening above approximately 2200 m. As a consequence of new snow and a strong southeasterly wind, sometimes large wind slabs will form in the course of the day in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls as well as above the tree line. In these altitude zones medium-sized and large natural avalanches are possible. Backcountry touring and snowshoe hiking call for extensive experience in the assessment of avalanche danger and careful route selection.

Snowpack Structure

The new snow of Saturday will be deposited on the favourable surface of an old snowpack. The old snowpack remains generally moist. In its middle, the snowpack is faceted. At low and intermediate altitudes from a snow sport perspective, insufficient snow is lying.

Tendency

In some localities wind and new snow: The danger of dry and moist avalanches will decrease gradually.
