Persistent weak layers
- Above 1,800 m
Favorable conditions, but fresh snowdrifts over small areas
Favorable conditions, but fresh snowdrifts over small areas
Avalanche danger is low. Isolated triggerings possible on extremely steep slopes. At high altitudes, small freshly generated snowdrift accumulations require attentiveness, they are frequently prone to triggering. Apart from the risks of being buried in snow masses, the danger of being swept along and forced to take a fall need due consideration. On very steep grass-covered slopes, small, in isolated cases medium-sized glide-snow avalanches can trigger naturally.
The snowpack was able to settle and consolidate somewhat due to higher temperatures and solar radiation. Particularly on shady slopes in the uppermost part of the snowpack there are weak layers evident which can easily be triggered. During the course of the day, superficially melt-freeze encrusted layers are becoming moist on steep sunny slopes, often wind crusts. On steep sunny slopes a melt-freeze crust is evident. Encrusted snowpack surfaces moisten during the day.
Nocturnal skies will be slightly cloudy and dry. On Saturday, sunshine and often dense high altitude clouds will alternate, diffuse light conditions will frequently prevail. At 2000m: -5 to 0 degrees. Brisk to strong winds, on foehn mountains storm-strength S/SW winds.
Avalanche danger levels are not expected to change significantly.
