Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: Unstable windslab will be found on mainly North-West to North-East aspects above 900 metres. Gully tops, coire rims and crag aprons will be most affected. During the day, shallow accumulations of isolated fresh windslab will start to build on East and South-East aspects. Cornices will also be found on the same aspects. Below this height, instabilities will be found in steep wind sheltered locations. Wind exposed areas will be stable, firm and icy. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: There will be small amounts of fresh snow above 650 metres around dawn. This will become more persistent from midday with snow falling to 200 metres by the end of the period. Light South-Westerlies veer to the North-West becoming strong by the afternoon. The freezing level will gradually lower from 800 metres to 400 metres. Observed Weather Influences: Overnight snow cleared to leave a dry day with a few isolated snow showers. Winds from the Southern quadrant eased through the day. The freezing level hovered around 800 metres. ObservedSnowStability: Areas of unstable windslab has developed in steep wind sheltered locations on mainly North-West to North-East aspects above 950 metres, with some cross-loading taking place. Gully tops, coire rims and crag aprons most affected. Fragile cornices are present on the same aspects. Many areas are stable, firm and icy. The avalanche hazard is Considerable.
