Avalanche Activity

The wind slabs of the last few days represent the main danger. The weather will be mild over a wide area.

The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls above the tree line. Medium-sized and, in isolated cases, large natural avalanches are possible. The wind slabs can be released in isolated cases in all aspects at elevated altitudes. As a consequence of warming during the day, the likelihood of natural moist avalanches being released will increase gradually in particular on steep sunny slopes at intermediate and high altitudes.

Snowpack Structure

The wind slabs are lying on weak layers. Towards its base, the snowpack is largely stable. The solar radiation will give rise as the day progresses to increasing moistening of the snowpack. In steep terrain there is a danger of falling on the hard snow surface.

Tendency

Warming above the tree line.
