Strong winds on Tuesday will drift new snow into thick slabs on east through south-facing slopes. Be wary of large open slopes below ridgetop with a smooth, rounded-looking snow surface. You can trigger avalanches in drifted snow that break several feet. Shooting cracks and hard-feeling snow underfoot or machine indicate you have found a slab of drifted snow.
Also, watch out for large overhanging cornices. They can break much further back than you expect. Large chunks of cornice falling onto a slope will also trigger larger avalanches.
