Friday marks the last day of generally safe avalanche conditions before a storm arrives, dramatically changing conditions by Saturday. Most slopes are free of avalanches due to a shallow, weak, and discontinuous snowpack. Still, it's a good idea to look for and avoid firm, hollow-sounding snow on steep, exposed slopes. Safer, more enjoyable travel can be found on wind-sheltered slopes at lower elevations.
