Avalanche Activity

New snow and wind slabs represent the main danger.

As a consequence of new snow and a strong wind from westerly directions, easily released wind slabs formed in the last two days. The fresh snow as well as the sometimes large wind slabs can be released easily, even by a single winter sport participant, above approximately 2200 m. The avalanche prone locations for dry avalanches are to be found in particular in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain and at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack.

Snowpack Structure

5 to 15 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, has fallen since Wednesday above approximately 1600 m. The westerly wind has transported the new snow. Up to 1900 m rain has fallen over a wide area. In particular at elevated altitudes snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind.
