Avalanche Activity

Be careful, many rocks hidden by fresh snow. The more recent wind slabs are small and in some cases prone to triggering.

As a consequence of new snow and a moderate to strong wind from westerly directions, wind slabs will form. They represent the main danger. Wind slabs can in some places be released by people. This applies especially at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack, especially in pass areas in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain, especially on steep slopes. Restraint should be exercised because avalanches can sweep people along and give rise to falls.

Snowpack Structure

10 to 20 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, will fall on Monday above approximately 2000 m. 10 to 15 cm of snow fell on Saturday. The sometimes strong wind has transported the new snow. Adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas and at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions a little snow is lying. In all aspects snow depths vary greatly above approximately 2200 m, depending on the infuence of the wind. On steep sunny slopes below approximately 2600 m a little snow is lying. At low and intermediate altitudes from a snow sport perspective, in most cases insufficient snow is lying. Weak layers exist in the old snowpack in all aspects.
