Kernpunkte

Avalanches large enough to bury or injure a rider remain unlikely.  Low hazard doesn't mean no hazard, and it is still prudent to use safe travel techniques when riding on slopes steeper than 30 degrees.

Avalanche Discussion

Tuesday was another warm and sunny day.  Traveling near and above treeline I saw a few roller balls from near rocks and trees, but no significant Wet Loose avalanche problem.  The December sun just doesn't seem to be strong enough.

There is a full menu of surface snow conditions out there to choose from, based predominantly on how much sun a slope has been getting.  Today I found the best riding on slopes that were sheltered from both the wind and the sun.

I've been digging a lot on my last three days of observations and haven't found any concerning persistent weak layers.  Forecasters will continue building confidence in our assessment of the snowpack as we spend more days in the field!
