Kernpunkte

Most slopes in this zone lack enough snow to produce avalanches. However, there is a chance you could trigger avalanches where more than about 18" of snow exists.  If you're traveling in the snowier Soldier Mtns or South Fk of the Boise River drainage, refer to the Galena Summit and Eastern Mtns forecast.

Daily Avalanche Forecasts with danger ratings will begin when access improves.

Avalanche Discussion

If you find enough snow for skiing and riding, you need to be thinking about the chances of triggering a persistent slab avalanche. In the neighboring zones with better access, many persistent slab avalanches failed in December on weak, sugary, faceted snow near the ground. Assume this weak layer exists if there's enough snow to ride or slide. Slopes with stiffer, wind-drifted snow near the surface are most suspect.

While you're unlikely to trigger slides large enough to bury people in this zone, even small avalanches can have severe consequences when snow cover is thin. Picture where an avalanche could carry you—through trees, stumps, rocks, or into creeks— before committing to skiing, riding, or crossing steep slopes.
