Avalanche Activity

As a consequence of new snow a moderate danger of dry and wet avalanches will prevail.

Up to 20 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, fell on Tuesday above approximately 1600 m. In particular in the regions exposed to heavier precipitation and on very steep slopes small and, in isolated cases, medium-sized dry and wet avalanches are possible. They can in isolated cases be released, even by a single winter sport participant. Restraint should be exercised because avalanches can sweep people along and give rise to falls.

Snowpack Structure

Over a wide area 15 to 20 cm of snow, and up to 30 cm in some localities, fell on Tuesday above approximately 1600 m. The new snow is lying on a crust and generally at low and intermediate altitudes. The new snow is lying on surface hoar in some places on shady slopes at high altitude. High Alpine regions: Weak layers exist in the snowpack especially on shady slopes. Over a wide area there is still a very large amount of snow.
