Salt River and Wyoming Ranges

The General Avalanche Hazard is LOW in the northern and central portions of the Wyoming Range and MODERATE in the southern and eastern areas where greater depths of new snow fell in the most recent storm. Pockets of surface slabs up to a foot in depth in the south and east and isolated pockets of slab up to ten inches in depth in the central and northern portions of the range were formed by strong winds. The firm slabs lie upon slick old snow surfaces and weak faceted snow and when triggered accelerate quickly making them more hazardous than one would expect.

The snowpack is mostly stable and avalanches are unlikely except in isolated, wind loaded pockets. FOR THE UPPER GREEN RIVER BASIN AND THE EASTERN AND SOUTHERN PORTIONS OF THE GREYS RIVER / SOUTHWEST TRAILS AREA. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be MODERATE. Pockets of surface slabs up to 12 inches in depth exist in steep, wind loaded areas. Backcountry users are advised to consult area specific forecasts issued every morning as new information may become available and unexpected weather can change conditions.
