Kernpunkte

Human Triggered avalanches are possible on wind-loaded slopes near and above tree line. Avoid slopes that show signs of wind-packed snow and continually asses terrain throughout the day to better understand the distribution of the wind slab problem.  Traveling below the treeline and in wind-sheltered terrain can help to avoid avalanche hazards today.

Over the last 48 hrs, consistent SW winds have created wind slabs on Lee aspects of the terrain. The wind slabs created mid-storm and during the following days are beginning to heal and bond with the snowpack; areas of instability still remain though. SW winds will continue today, but with less intensity.  Watch for drifting and blowing snow actively loading slopes near the ridge tops. Specific terrain features to be vigilant near include convex and concave slopes,  ridgetops, and gullies that may be cross-loaded.

Avalanche Discussion

The forecaster's time in the field has been limited over the past few days due to the recent closure of Walker canyon due to avalanche hazards. You can help by submitting an observation HERE.

Observations help improve the accuracy of the daily avalanche forecasts.  Even the most basic information helps whether you have noticed some winds picking up or some minor activity while you were out in the backcountry, it all helps make the forecast more accurate for all users.
